The First Days: What the Loose Stools Mean

A meaningful percentage of people starting Basics experience looser bowel movements during the first three to five days. This is not a side effect in the clinical sense — it’s a predictable physiological response to a significant and sudden increase in fermentable fiber in a gut that has been operating on a low-fiber diet.

Someone living on processed food, eating out daily, with low dietary control, will notice it more. Managing the adaptation period

It also supports the production of short-chain fatty acids including butyrate, the primary energy source for colonocytes.

The prebiotic fibers already present in Basics — particularly inulin and acacia gum — act as selective substrates for both strains, meaning the formula is designed to support the survival and colonization of its own probiotics. This synbiotic design is considerably more sophisticated than probiotics taken without a prebiotic matrix.

The gut-energy connection

Practical Notes

Preparation: Dissolve the full sachet in 200 ml of still water at room temperature. Cold water slows dissolution and can leave undissolved particles at the bottom. Stir well. Not ideal in hot water as heat degrades the live bacterial cultures.

Timing: Morning, ideally 15–20 minutes before eating. This positions the enzymes to be active when the main meal arrives, and gives the probiotics a window to establish in the gut before the acid load from food changes the gastric environment.
